Rebuilding the data layer from scratch. The v1 database was a spreadsheet pretending to be a database. v2 is a proper PostGIS-backed store with a new API, a new map renderer, and a submission pipeline so other people can contribute pits. The goal is to document every serious pit in the American South — not the famous ones, the real ones.
See the project →A complete redesign and rebuild. The old site was a résumé. This one is a workshop — a place where the actual work lives, not a description of it. Built with React, Tailwind 4, and a FastAPI backend. The data visualizations are Recharts with a custom Dark Workshop token system.
The first long piece on the food writing side. The argument: the best barbecue in America is hyperlocal, not regional — and the tools we use to find it (Yelp, Google Maps, food media) are optimized for the wrong things. A map is the right interface.
